GPS Location

When you need help, it's important to know where you are. With our active lifestyles, we may accidentally find ourselves not "lost," but not exactly sure where we are at the moment. So, how do you get your GPS location from your mobile phone in order to share it with 9-1-1 operators?

Phones are constantly being updated with new features and sometimes menus change as well, so these instructions, while accurate today, may not be in the future.

iPhone Instructions

1. Open the Compass app on your iPhone.
2. Your current latitude and longitude appear near the bottom of the screen.
3. Read or enter the coordinates exactly as displayed, with latitude first and longitude second.
4. If coordinates do not appear, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Compass, then select While Using the App. You can also tap the coordinates to open your location in Apple Maps.

Android Instructions

1. Open Google Maps and tap the Current Location icon.
   
2. Touch and hold an unlabeled area at or near your blue location dot to drop a red pin.
   
3. Your latitude and longitude will appear in the search box.
   
4. Read or copy the coordinates with latitude first and longitude second, then share them with 911 along with your location and emergency details.
